THE "NEW" CONTROL ROOM

The Control Room was located on the North side of the third floor in Electra House. (The "Old" control room had been on the first floor.) The East end of the floor contained the MCVF equipment linking EH to the radio stations and the West end of the room contained the error correcting (ARQ) multiplex equipment. Hasler electro-mechanical TORs and Marconi ECMs.

Communication with the three receiving stations was by audio Morse taker. Each station having a distinct tone. Somerton high, Brentwood medium, Bearley low. Communication with the transmitter stations was by teleprinter talker.

Phil Ryan says: The first view is from the Transmitter Control Desk 1, the person right foreground is Bert Walker, the person sitting on Transmitters 2 desk next to the signing on cards is. Wally Scarth, used to be our watch labourer and tea-man. I would be guessing about the two on Rx1 , maybe Strickett, but not sure , even the detail on the original does not show , Rx2 maybe Fred Wholey.

A rather youthful Phil Ryan circa 64 , 65 era

Hasler Tors, note the XQ too!!
